Who we are
Topline Phelans is a family run Builder’s Merchants and D.I.Y business. We operate out of Durrow County Laois, Carrick on Suir County Tipperary and also with a small store in Ballyragget County Kilkenny. Our members of staff have spent their working lives in the hardware business and complement each other in their individual departments.

What we do
Whatever your requirements, be it a new build, an extension to your home or office, or some work in your garden, we will do everything in our power to make your job easier. We have a fully stocked builder’s yard for all your contract requirements. Our retail department includes stoves, doors, floors, paint, shower enclosures, housewares, tools, electrical appliances, and a gardening centre. We offer useful services including delivery, paint mixing and free quotations.

Our History
The business was founded in 1955 by John (Jack) Phelan. Initially the business was just a small hardware store. In the 1960’s John moved premises and expanded the business to include a grocery pub and funeral business. As the years progressed the grocery and pub business were closed, and John concentrated on the hardware business. During the 1980’s John was joined in the business by his son (also called John). The Ballyragget branch was added during the 1980’s and this served as a good sales outlet for the Kilkenny region. In 2012 the company purchased the hardware business Cleary’s Hardware, Carrick on Suir. This business continued to trade as Cleary’s Hardware until recently when the name was changed to Topline Phelans. In 2017 Sean Phelan joined the business as the third generation of the family to do so.

Local Community
Our existence and growth is thanks to the support of all our local communities. In return we consistently support local charitable, social and sporting organizations and will continue to do so.

The Topline Group
The Topline Group is a group of independent hardware merchants set up in the 1970’s to enable them to avail of bulk purchasing power and compete with the multinational companies. We were one of the founding members of this group which now has in excess of 150 shops. Membership of this group has been paramount in ensuring that our company has survived and prospered over the years and enabled us to provide competitive pricing and a large range of products. With the help of the Topline Group we look forward to many more years serving our local communities.
